This is yet another extra project that I made with sea mix clay. Originally it was supposed to be my lidded, but I messed up the bottom part so then it became this project. I used the shadow green, and black glaze all mixed with a little white to get it to run. I then just went for it with a paint brush and painted random places to give it the simple, yet complete looking project.

This is my hand and wheel project that I made with Vashon White clay. I made and attached the handle by hand making it a hand and wheel project. At the bottom of my handle it was a little too thin again so I added some clay and gave it a little hand on the bottom to make it a little more complete. For glazing I used the clear and the light clear blue glazes. To get the plain stripes I used some tape and wrapped it around the handle and the inside of the project as well. With the wrap around of the clear glaze it made the project's shape and form stand out more. This is my groups Frankin pot! I worked wirh Duncan and Alex W. on this and he turned out pretty adorable! We made him look like Frankinstein (well kinda) I made the middle piece, Duncan made the bottom and Alex made the top of it. Alex and I attached the arms and the little bolts as well as the little scar on his head. With glazing we used the green glaze on the body, on the mouth we used the black and red glaze. On the eyes we used the black and white glaze. To make this project look more lively, we carved out the eyes, but nade the pupils still drawin out, then we did then same with the mouth. Then I just carved in some curved eyebrows to make him look kinda suprised and just used a balled pin tool to give him a cute little nose.
This is my vase that I made using the clay from the mixer. I haven't made a handle since my sophomore year, so it was a little refresher on how easy it is to make one. Since I got the bottom of the handle a little thin, I added some roses to the bottom as well as leaves. Then I added some leaves to the top of the handle to balance it all out. I then used the underglazes to put some color to the roses. This is my choice project that I made. I made this bowl out of sea mix and used the tuxedo underglaze to put my name on it so I have my very own bowl. This time while making this project I shaped the lip after I footed it to give it that unique square shape.
This is my set of 3 I made them all out of sea mix and put names on them for all my family members so they have their own bowls. I enforced on that foot ring and used the underglaze instead of carving into them because I like the that looks better it gives it the more home made feel.
Here are the two plates that I made, they are both made out of sea mix and I used the underglazes to put the design on the plates.
The plate on the left, I glazed a face on it because I thought it would be kinda quirky, to get the texture of the beard and hair I took a paper towel and dipped it in the underglaze and dabbed it. The plate on the right I call it the 'bomb of love'. It symbolizes the love for ceramic (just kidding) I thought it would also be kinda different then all the other projects that I have made. The reason why I call it the bomb of love is because once you find something you love a lot you will destroy anything in your path to be with that person or to do that activity. This is my tall project, I used the clay out of the mixer (Vashon white right?) with this project I yet again played around with the underglazes to get the dark and light colors.
This is my second bowl which completes the two bowls assignment. This bowl I was inspired from learning about the Asian artist Xu-Bing who I leaned about in my art history class. I tried to mimic the traditional painting style and I feel like it didn't turn out the way that I wanted it to. The way that I painted the inside by watering down the black under glaze and adding a darker top coat on top gives it more of a layered look/feel. Also with the texturing it makes the inside look rough when it actually is smooth. With this bowl I would have taken more time on making sure that the mountains were less steep and more mountain-like. This is my first bowl that I made this semester. I call it my noodle bowl because I am going to eat some pretty nummy noodles out of it tonight. I just made a regular old bowl on the wheel but on the outside to make it a bit more smoother, I used my blue ribbed tool to make it look finished and well made. When glazing, I have always been fascinated with the beauty of nature (theme hint!) so I googled some images on Chinese cherry blossoms to paint using the under glaze on the outside and the little branches on the inside of the bowl. I feel like this design gave it more of a flow-ey feel to the bowl. And with using the clear glaze made it more smooth. With how the flowers are placed it really shows the shape of the bowl. This project here I am very happy with and can't wait to use to eat oodles of noodles out of. |
